Four Nashville Nonprofits Receive Prestigious Frist Award of Excellence in Team Building

NASHVILLE, TN... At the recent Salute to Excellence Banquet sponsored by the Center for Nonprofit Management, four local nonprofit agencies with ties to the disability community were recognized for their collaborative efforts on Walk & Roll 2007, an annual fund/friend raising event in Nashville. The four partner nonprofits include A.B.L.E. Youth, League for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Progress and Technology Access Center. The 'Frist Foundation Award of Excellence in Team Building' comes with a cash award of $20,000 which the four partners will share.

The first Walk & Roll took place in 2006. Originally conceived by Rob Bates of Technology Access Center, it was modeled after traditional fundraising walks that support an individual disease, cause or agency. From the start, Walk & Roll was designed as a cooperative venture to raise awareness and funds for nonprofits that provide services to children and adults with special needs in Middle Tennessee. Individually, none of the participating agencies felt that they had a large enough sphere of influence to carry off such an undertaking on their own. By partnering with other nonprofit service providers with a like mission - to help individuals with special needs live full, rich lives as integrated, productive members of the community - these four partners have accomplished significant growth of the event from the first to the second year.

Walk & Roll 2008, (the 3rd annual) is scheduled for April 19, 2008 in Centennial Park. In addition to the one mile family friendly fun walk, the events of the day will include a traditional 5K, a .25 Mile short course stroll for people with mobility limitations, and activities in the park for families to enjoy. All events are wheelchair accessible.

Salute to Excellence is an annual event sponsored by Center for Nonprofit management to recognize the accomplishments and important contribution made by area nonprofits. Approximately 1000 people attended this year's event. The other finalists for the Team Building Award were the Books from Birth Program of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and the Siloam Family Health Center. In addition to the Team Building Award, the Frist Foundation Awards of Achievement also recognize 'Innovation in Action' and 'Making a Difference'.
